A city in the As-Suwayda Governorate of Syria, Salkhad is the center of southern As-Suwayda and includes several towns, villages, and districts. It holds great historical importance and was a leading center in southern Syria. It was significant during the Roman Empire and contains many Roman ruins, as well as important monuments dating back to various periods, including the Ayyubid Islamic era. Among its historical monuments from this era are:

Salkhad Castle: An ancient castle and Ayyubid fortress built by the Ayyubids atop a volcanic hill overlooking the city. A tunnel connects it to the Bosra Citadel, extending underground between the two cities for a considerable distance, a route once used by horse-drawn chariots and military vehicles.
Salkhad Minaret: The minaret that once stood atop a mosque in the city, dating back to the Ayyubid era, remains in good condition and is located in the city’s main square. Above it is the name of Izz al-Din Aybak, who was the governor of the city during the reign of King Isa ibn al-Adil. There are remains of Ayyubid tombs containing Arabic Islamic manuscripts and documents dating back to the Ayyubid era. The city of Salkhad contains many Roman-era ruins and buildings. The city has a majority of Druze inhabitants and a large Christian minority.
